I have two favorite media players VLC media player and media player classic. Both are free and both play many different file types with ease.
VLC Media plalyer http://www.videolan.org/vlc
A cross-platform media player and streaming server. This player is highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, …) as well as DVDs VCDs , and various streaming protocols. It can also be used as a server to stream in unicast or multicast in ipv4 or ipv6 on a high bandwidth network. The site tracks how many are being downloaded and at the time I am writing this it is being download 2.2 times per second. Below is an example of an avi file I tested

The other one is media player classic.
I love this one because of it’s small memory footprint. On my old computer I could actually play a video and do something else at the same time. Also you don’t need to install it. The program is just one exe file good which is also good for a USB drive. I did have one problem though. I have a new computer so I had to install the xvid codec. After that everything worked perfectly. Below is the same avi file in media player classic

I like media player classic because I think the picture is sharper but vlc is brighter. Both have many options to customize the video settings but I prefer to just click and go so classic works for me.

4-10-08, Engaget wrote Blockbuster and streaming video.
This means that when the box comes out you can have access to most of blockbuster’s catalog once it is migrated.
This is a broadband prediction coming to fruition. Remember the commercials where someone would go into a crappy hotel. They would ask things like do you have room service … and they would say no. Then they asked about movies and they would have every movie every made. The commercial would say it was because they had broadband. Now we are able to take that advantage directly to the TV.

The
Hollywood Reporter is stating in no uncertain terms that
Blockbuster is developing a set-top box to stream video into the home. Now the real bombshell: it should be announced “sometime this month.” The device is expected to make the most of Blockbuster’s
access to Movielink’s 6,000 strong Movie catalog just as soon as the content is migrated to Blockbuster.com (sometime before June). While delivering movies into the home electronically certainly challenges Blockbuster’s brick and mortar business, really, what choice do they have in the relentless
face of progress.

I talked about television search sites in my previous post. Now I’m going to talk about what is currently my favorite movie search site for the iphone.
You type in your location and then you search by theater or movie.
Here is a result for movies
I like to search by theater which gives me this result.

It then shows a list of the movies playing there.
When you choose a movie it gives you a lot of information
You get the length of the movie and how many stars it was given. It then tells you when the movie is playing and it’s genre.
The buy tickets link leads to the
http://www.movietickets.com site. If the theaters in your area use this service you can buy tickets here.
Next is the play trailer link. This usually goes to the apple site which provides many high quality trailers.
Apple trailers.
The
IMDb link does what it says and opens the IMDb by searching for your selected movie.
The last one is the map to option. When you click this the maps application opens and drops a pin at the theater’s location. From there you can route to that location from your current location or a specific address.
