A cross-platform media player and streaming server. This player is highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, …) as well as DVDs VCDs , and various streaming protocols. It can also be used as a server to stream in unicast or multicast in ipv4 or ipv6 on a high bandwidth network. The site tracks how many are being downloaded and at the time I am writing this it is being download 2.2 times per second. Below is an example of an avi file I tested
I love this one because of it’s small memory footprint. On my old computer I could actually play a video and do something else at the same time. Also you don’t need to install it. The program is just one exe file good which is also good for a USB drive. I did have one problem though. I have a new computer so I had to install the xvid codec. After that everything worked perfectly. Below is the same avi file in media player classic
I like media player classic because I think the picture is sharper but vlc is brighter. Both have many options to customize the video settings but I prefer to just click and go so classic works for me.
Glyn sez, “Mazz has been posting knitting patterns to help other people re-create characters from the cult series using only two sticks and ball of wool. Impressive? The BBC, producers of the series, didn’t think so. They sent Mazz a letter, which states:” We note that you are supplying DR WHO items, and using trade marks and copyright owned by BBC. You have not been given permission to use the DR WHO brand and we ask that you remove from your site any designs connected with DR WHO. Please reply acknowledging receipt of this email, and confirm that you will remove the DR WHO items as requested.”
You then get a detailed list of television services in your area.
After clicking save you get the following menu.
Choosing channel guide will give you the total list of channels available. You then have the oportunity to uncheck the ones you do not want to see listed.
Now go back and click what’s on now you will see a list of channels, the shows that are on, and the time.
If you click the magnifying glass or choose complete listings you get the ability to sort by date and category.
When you click one of the shows you get a short synopsis and a list of whenever it runs again.
In the example below you see the Illusionist comes on at 5:50 AM on channel 154 and then 8:50 AM on channel 155.
Of the three I have review this one is the best for casual browsing. I also like the fact that it tells you when the show comes on again. Unfortunately there is no search function but other than that it is the closest to a traditional TV guide.
After all most people use a guide because they don’t know what they want to watch not because they are searching for a specific show.
It has the option to choose which channels you want to list.
I like the channel view where you can see all the channels you chose and click which one you want to view.
Then you get a time line where you can click the shows and get imformation about the program.
If you click on a movie you will get information from the IMDB which is integrated into the application.
The search function is lacking it found Medium with no problem but when I tried Dr Who and home movies it didn’t find anything. I searched for Monk and it brought up Monk and My Gym partner’s a Monkey.
This site only lists the shows that you are searching for.
You click add and create a list of the shows that you would like to find.
The types of shows it will list is limited. It will not list movies and it will not give you listings of shows that are no longer running. TV forecast will list the show but it also gives you the message, “Series Ended.”
